Minnesotans wait the entire frozen winter for the summer to arrive. Once it does, we strip down to our shorts and swimsuits, play at the beach, go biking, golfing, and even do some gardening. We acquire a lovely tan that replaces our pasty pallor. This summer, the temperatures went from the enjoyable 70’s and 80’s to the scorching 90’s sooner and more frequently than we were ready for. Is it possible that the novelty of the sun and heat is starting to wear off?

It’s been one of those weeks. You found out the overpass is closed on your way to work Monday morning and it took an extra 20 minutes to get there; every day. Monday night your mother needed you to come over and help her find the remote control; for the VCR she can’t rent tapes for anymore.

Escapology has long been the practice of escaping from restraints and other traps such as straitjackets, hand cuffs, coffins, barrels, steel boxes and more. Here are some of the best known escapologists in history. Dorothy Dietrich best known as the first and only woman to have performed the bullet catch in her mouth, and the first woman to perform a straitjacket escape while suspended hundreds of feet in the air from a burning rope. Another year filled with promise, adventure, and hopefully success. Standing at the starting line of 2018, you believe anything is possible. After the ball dropped and we all squealed with delight and toasted the New Year, the future looked so bright. When you woke up Monday morning, grateful to have the day off to recover, 2018 was too bright on the eyes and for some of you smarting from that hangover. After closing the blinds, and showering off 2017’s regrets, it’s time to get realistic about what we can expect to achieve this year.

The holidays are a whirl wind of frenzy and activity. You can still taste Thanksgiving and just as the indigestion settles down, Christmas has arrived. Going to the company party, buying gifts, making plans with relatives, and the big day came before you knew it. Just when you think you can relax a little, you realize you have New Year’s a week later. Who was in charge of planning when they laid these out on the calendar all those centuries ago?

After this month’s installment of bizarre holiday traditions, we found some more oddities that will make you feel normal and glad to live in America where singing about a fat guy flying around in a sleigh seem pretty reasonable. In the lovely country of Norway, which has ancestral heritage for many Minnesotans, it seems that on Christmas Eve the good citizens all go out of their way to hide the brooms. Is it because they deserve a break from cleaning for the holiday?

Even if the food and drink is good, you find yourself dreading yet another holiday party. Not even egg nog spiked with the good stuff is going to make another party bearable. You have discovered how scrooge and the Grinch came into existence. Surely they were meant to suffer one holiday gathering after the next until their spirit was broken and henceforth boycotted all such festivities with vehement distain.

The holiday season has arrived and everyone is looking to get their loved ones a unique and interesting gift. Last year’s golf club is in the garage collecting dust, those cozy slippers are lost in the back of the closet, and the kids stopped playing that video game a month after they got it.
